A few minutes after 10:30 am the official presentation of the 9th edition of La Rioja Bike Race presented by PIRELLI started in the press room of the Government of La Rioja.
A race that, during three days, will gather 850 cyclists coming from all corners of Spain and countries such as Belgium, Netherlands, Andorra, Portugal or the United Kingdom. During these three days, the cyclists will ride through different parts of the surroundings of Logroño to discover the charms of La Rioja. Three stages with more than 200 kilometres and almost 4,000 kilometres of elevation gain.
In the words of Eloy Madorrán, Director General of the Government of La Rioja, this event is an "obligatory and eagerly awaited" event for the country's mountain bikers. The Government of La Rioja is "satisfied" with this event.
For her part, Rosa Ana Zorzano Cámara, Mayoress of Albelda de Iregua, the town that will host the OAKLEY FINISHER STAGE, commented on the commitment of the people of La Rioja to this event, for "the values that a sport such as cycling provides, as well as for the economic boost that it represents".
In addition, Aitor Jiménez, director of Octagon Esedos events, wanted to thank the institutions participating in this edition, since without them it would be difficult for this event to be possible. An event that "has become an economic engine" for the city and its surroundings thanks to the 850 participants in this ninth edition. "It is an event of reference for the Community and for the City Council, with new variables in the financing of the race with Navarrete or Albelda de Iregua".
As far as names are concerned, Aitor Jiménez has highlighted some such as Txell Figueras, Enrique Morcillo, as well as athletes from other disciplines such as the Trail runner Sara Alonso or the Dakar riders, Armand Monleón or Marc Solà.
Finally, Daniel Sáez, responsible for routes of La Rioja Bike Race presented by PIRELLI has developed the details of the three stages. A triptych of cycling, very different between them, giving a good example of the diversity of routes that the area has. To highlight, the circuit of La Gragera, usual venue of the Riojan XCO Championship or the return to the Via Romana after several years without passing. The last of the three stages, starting in Albelda de Iregua, will be a very demanding stage with "a lot of trails and a lot of stones".
With the presentations done, let the party begin!
