“A benchmark race in combining sport, tourism and gastronomy”

The London 2012 Olympic diploma (qualified sixth) faces a new Olympic season. From La Rioja, besides ambassador of the race, he’s been the winner of its first two editions, hence is the main favourite.

You’re the main favourite to win the race, in your land, of which you’re ambassador. Can it be any better?

True!! For me it’s a real pride to be the ambassador of mi region and to be able to put it on a map across the world through a sports event, as well as having chances to win it. You can’t ask for more; sport, tourism, gastronomy in your home and knowing that what we offer is really interesting.

Being the face of La Rioja Bike Race is a dream come true?

Without a doubt, it’s my sport and my territory. For me it’s a prize to my sports career and a satisfaction.

How do you face such a special race for you?

Thiss year in a different way, since the dates are delicate for me, between World Cups and as main course in August, the Olympic Games. Besides this, with lots of excitement, willing to be competitive and have some nice days with the mountain biking community.

What will the riders find? No one better than you to explain it, since you know each meter.

A privileged environment, pure MTB. Incredible areas, technical sections and forests well joined to stretch out the masive group and then… Logroño, friendly  city where to enjoy the hours of leisure.

What makes each stage different from the rest?

The first one is an entertained stage and with great technical sections. The second stage is the queen one, with the beautiful Roman road and lots of forest. The third and last stage will be fast, with the nice singletrack of Las Neveras.

Which stretch do you like most or is most special according to you?

The Roman road is incredible!

La Rioja Bike Race is a sports and touristic attraction. Does this make one of the most appealing races of the season?

They fit perfectly! It is and will be a benchmark race in combining sport, tourism and gastronomy.

Can it be a great experience for the amateur riders?

If something is special about it is that from ‘pros’ to the fairly novice people, across those who try to make a space for themselves, all have room at La Rioja Bike Race. It’s about enjoying MTB and that everyone has a goal, inside and outside the sport event.

What advice would you give in order to face the race?

They should come without getting nervous, its three days and there’s opportunities for everyone. Good luck and enjoy!!
